Knitalong | Moonwake Cowl

GIVEAWAY :: if you're knitting along and want a chance to win one of two Firefly Fibers gift cards, follow us on Instagram and tag your projects with @fireflyfibers and #FireflyMoonwakeKAL and we'll be selecting one WIP and one FO winner at the end of our knitalong.
Moonwake Cowl by Andrea Mowry
"I love a moebius cowl as it is perfect for when you don’t want to have to weave in lots of ends from colorwork! Not to mention - it happens to be my favorite style of cowl to wear - double win!

Moonwake is a great small project packed with a variety of techniques (provisional cast on, knitting in the round, colorwork, grafting...) - it's a skill-building knit for adventurous beginners and fun for more advanced knitters alike.

Andrea's pattern includes everything you need, including a detailed overview of the design construction, easy to follow charts for the colorwork, video tutorials for the provisional cast on and kitchener stitch with illustrations showing how to join your finished cowl.
New to colorwork? Moonwake's rhythmic and short repeats make this a great project to try colorwork, or hone your colorwork skills. Knit entirely on a 16" circular needle, there's no need to worry about needle transitions, purling with more than one color, or increasing/decreasing in colorwork.

The yarn, you ask? The announcement for this Knitalong has been waiting for our restock of Julie's Melange N.1 as her new Yak blend is a great fit and we're excited to share that we currently have all colors in stock, and 2 new Melange colors for you!
If another of our DK or worsted weight yarns strikes your fancy, then go with it! Leizu DK is always a favorite, Shepherd's Wool Worsted is so soft and squishy and Brooklyn Tweed Arbor would also be a great fit (although our inventory is still pretty lean with a lot of colors on backorder). This cowl would also be lovely in the softer colors of Woolfolk Far  and our current stock is on sale.
Need help picking your colors or "see" your combo before you order?
We're happy to help select your perfect color combination via email (we love sending photos) or you can schedule a Virtual Shopping Appointment via Zoom and we can pick out colors together!

Winter Knitalong | Lopi Sweater

For our Winter Knitalong, we're going classic with an Icelandic colorwork sweater in Léttlopi and YOU get to choose your pattern (yup, it's true, it's your choice)

Cast On :: February 1st

Bind Off :: March 24th

Firefly Fibers Supplies :: Léttlopi in quantity needed for your sweater

Want to know more about the yarn? Léttlopi is a classic Icelandic aran weight single yarn that's perfect for Lopapeysa (traditional Iceland colorwork sweaters) - the loosely twisted construction produces garments that are lightweight and comfortable to wear indoors or outdoors (protects beautifully from the elements), yet it's a hardwearing yarn for sweaters and accessories that will last while keeping you toasty warm.

We have plenty of Léttlopi in stock at the shop and we're working hard to keep the orders coming in and our shelves full for you!

Our shop sample is Strokkur by Ysolda Teague (sizes 39.25-50.5"), but that doesn't mean that you have to knit this sweater, peruse Ravelry (check out some our Lopi favorites here) and...

Berroco, the US distributor for Lopi, is also hosting a Lopi KAL and they have some fabulous blog posts to inspire, help you get ready, along with great sweater knitting tips. You can find all of their blog posts here and you'll definitely want to read the KAL Annoucement: Knit a Lopi Sweater with Us because it's full of Lopi sweater inspiration!

Would you like to join the Lopi-Along fun? Pick out your sweater, get your yarn (let us know you're joining in so you'll get the incentives on a future KAL) and get ready to cast on!

Need a little help along the way? Check out our Lopi Sweater-Along Lab where you'll have 4 - 2 hour sessions that are part help and part social knitting at the shop during the KAL.

Wait, I'm not local? That's ok. You'll still be eligible for our KAL incentives and can join the fun in our Ravelry group or in the Berroco group for the knitalong.

Knitalong Incentives? See the details here, but in short... choose your pattern, purchase Lopi for your sweater (just let us know at the shop or leave us a note when you're checking out online), and you'll be eligible for an incentive on the next KAL. AND... if you post a photo of your FO Lopi Sweater in our Ravelry KAL group thread (by the end date), you'll be entered for a chance to win $25 of Firefly Fibers store credit!

We hope you'll knit along with us and fall in love with Lopi!
